Thank God for The Land of Noodle Soup and (M)ango Ice Cream

My day began with a beautiful hour long run along the seaside harbor of Hong Kong. It felt so good to run, and exploring new trails and routes is probably one of my most favorite things to do, besides, of course, reading Jodi Picoult books and eating frozen yogurt.

Today's goal: Watch Avatar in Imax 3D. Unfortunately, after a long, crowded MTR ride over to iSquare(another HUGE new shopping place in Tsim Sha Tsui) Gong Gong and I were disappointed to find that the show was sold out until Monday. It looks like the world of avatar will have to be postponed.

For lunch, my grandparents took me to a great 2 story chinese restaurant that was an absolute madhouse! I have never seen so many people packed into one restaurant in my life. There were absolutely no tables, so the 3 of us settled to share a table with these two weird creepy 20 something year old brothers who sat across from us. They looked like pedofiles, but I guess when you're starving and smelling the scent of noodles, you'll be surprised at the lengths you will go. Of course, when a table finally opened up and we were able to move, the Pedofile Brothers were finished with their meals and left. Anyways, I had a bowl of noodle soup way better than any Pho place imaginable.

Afterwards, Poa Poa and I set out to the Prince Edward area for her to get her hair done. The salon was the tiniest little salon I have ever set foot in, maybe big enough to hold about 5 average Americans? I met the hairdresser's 10 year old daughter, Ms. Cindy Lee, who could understand some English but barely speak it, and was trying her best to converse with me. I told her that this summer I could teach her English if she teaches me Chinese, and that suggestion drew a huge grin.
Next, Poa Poa and I spent the rest of the day shopping and bargaining in all of the outdoor stall shopping areas. Correction, I shopped while she bargained for me. At Ladies Street, I bought 3 pairs of the cutest flip flops for HK$180, which pissed off the girl who sold it to us so bad that she was scolding Poa Poa. In turn, this made Poa Poa mad so, naturally, she scolded her back. But of course, with the master bargainer on my side, I definitely paid what was bargained for. I also got a pair of boots, heels, slippers and some other things for great prices. If only America was this cheap, I do believe I would be a rich woman..

Anyways, the "best moment of the day" award goes to when I had my traditional Chinese grandmother bargaining over the price of the new belly button ring that I wanted. There really is nothing like it. I guess that's what happens when you have an American half-breed twenty year old granddaughter.
After purchasing the belly button ring for about 8 US bucks, Poa Poa and I went to the "Mango" place as we call it for some Mango smoothie with jellies and a mixed fruit with Mango ice cream dessert. Why I capitalized Mango I have no idea. But I know nothing about this place except for the fact that their Mango ice cream is BOMB.

Spending the day with Poa Poa was so nice. We spent the day chatting, gossiping, joking, and telling many stories. I know waaaay too much about members of my Chinese family (both dead and alive) than I should.

Me & The Bargain Master aka Poa Poa

As for now, the 3 of us are still trying to figure out why the mall had an ice cream place called "Italian Tomato", why the poor workers get on all fours to pick the small weeds between the brick cracks in the ground, and why Avatar had to be sold out today. I guess some things we may never know, but what I do know is that running, Mango with a capital M ice cream, and time spent with your Poa Poa = pure happiness.
